factors for server health

What specific metrics would you look for when looking at the overall health of a proliant server - based on your experience, i.e. monitoring for any issues that are common with server hardware, can you provide a list of health metrics to identify issues/problem before they actually happen, or what you monitor on a proactive basis?

Re: factors for server health

  • temperature

health of components such as:

  • disks, controllers, cache
  • fans

System logs are important to monitor to catch some memory and cpu errors. Some can be found in HP's diagnostics tools.

Network errors/statistics can tell you about nic/sfp/cable issues

On linux hplog, hpasmcli, hpacucli are ones I use to monitor the basic health of the servers.
