hard drive error 640006 on ML350G5
Hi
I have a client with a ML350 G5 server and I just checked the HP Insight Diagnostics for Hardware Diagnosis. It is showing an error on all the drives of: Error: 640006 The read and or white HARD error rate is above threshold.
Warning: The warranty period for this hard drive may have expired or may be about to expire. Well the server has expired I know for definite, but I am a little concerned about this error. Does it mean that they are on their way out? Should I be looking at replacing them? if so, there is 3 hdd's in a raid 5 configuration. should I replace them all one by one and wait for each one to rebuild itself?
All help with this is appreciated?
Many thanks

Re: hard drive error 640006 on ML350G5
HI
I installed the proliant support pack tonight to the server, so it should have all the updates in it. Please have a look at the new report for HP ADU

Re: hard drive error 640006 on ML350G5
Hi,
Gone through the ADU reports and here are my observations:
1. Logical Drive Status is OK
2. 3 Hard Drives configured under Fault Tolerance Mode Distributed Data Guard (RAID 5).
3. Hard Drives Status is also OK.
4. Controller Firmware Version: 1.66 (9 May 2007) which is quite old and does not contain critical updates required to prevent few issues as mentioned in the previous post (customer advisories)
What needs to be done:
Plase note: ProLiant Support Pack that you have updated does not contain firmware.
1. Update the Controller Firmware (latest version : 1.86 (B) (26 May 2010)) using the most recent version of the Firmware Maintenance CD or download an individual controller firmware from HP support website:
Firmware - CD-ROM
Version: 9.30 (5 May 2011)

Smart Array E200i Firmware
2. Download and run the latest HP ProLiant Array Diagnostics Utility for Windows:
3. Error message that you have mentioned is specific to HP Insight diagnostic test so please share the following information:
- Insight diagnostic version?
- Have you run the HP Insight diagnostic Online or Offline test or Both?
- What is the Hard Drive status in HP Insight diagnostic Online test/drive diagnosis?
Note: ADU report shows logical drive and hard drive status is OK and does not recommend any drive replacement.

Re: hard drive error 640006 on ML350G5
Hi
Many thanks for your reply and sorry for the delay of mine. I have looked at what you said and have downloaded the firmware updates. But unfortunately these have to be run from an iso image when restarting the server. This client of mine is about 60 miles away from where I am. I will attempt to get to the client some time next week, so won't be able to give you any further answers until a week or so.
