hot swap drives

I have recently upgraded an ML350 with larger hotswap disks. Does anyone know if I can reuse the old hot swap 36G drives in a ml330 to connect to a standard scsi RAID controller?
I thought I might be able to take the drives out of the caddy, but it has a different connector.

Re: hot swap drives

Hello,
Unfortunately you cannot remove the hot pluggable HDDs from their respective caddies and reuse them as standard SCSI drives. I have come in contact with some folks who have tried to do this unsuccessfully.

Re: hot swap drives

You can use them in the ML330 but you must purchase the ML3xx Two Bay Hot Plug SCSI Drive Cage (PN 244059-B21).
Once you install it in the ML330 server you can install two of the Universal Drives you pulled from your ML350.

I hope this helps.
Enjoy!

Thanks for your help - looks like I'll have to go for the 2 bay drive cage option.

Re: hot swap drives

The drive in the caddy has an 80 pin SCA connector that combines data lines and power lines. The non hotplug drives have a 68 pin data connectoor and a 4 pin power connector.

You can buy a 68 pin to SCA converter. It is a small circuit board that plugs into the SCA connector and provides a 68 pin data and a 4 pin power connector at the other edge.
