how to I migrate a raid set from one set of drives to another
we have a DL 380g4 with built in Hp raid card
currently has 4 72GB drives in a raid 5 setup with one logical volume (C)
I want to migrate that logical volume (C) to a mirrored pair of 300Gb drives so it will become new bootable C drive
then I will build new volume/raidset with 4 new 300 GB drives and that will become a D drive
Is there an HP raid tool that will enable me to do that or should I be looking at imaging tools such as ghost

Re: how to I migrate a raid set from one set of drives to another
So 4x72GB drives in raid five must become 2x300GB in raid one. I dont think this can de done with the raid controller. Using Ghost should be fine.

Re: how to I migrate a raid set from one set of drives to another
backup/restore should be the most straightforward thing to do.
but technically with ACU you can change the raid-level of a volume.
The controller decides which drives in an array to use for a volume you can use mixed raid-5 and raid-1 volumes in the same array.
NB! for a raid-1 volume, redundancy is organized like raid-1: each sector is mirrored to another disk, but there is no one-to-one mirroring using only two disks; all drives may be used.
- first add the new drives to the array
to create space in the array.
- then convert the raid-level.
- remove the old drives one by one.
(or leave them for new volumes)
NB! wait each step for rebuild to complete
(could take a long time).
