I have bought the Proliant DL580 G5 server. It come with one backplane and I wish to add the second one in order to increase the number of disk. The only backplane in the server is managing by one smart array:HP Smart Array P400i/256 MB Controller.
I would like to know if I need another smart array before adding the second backplane or not.
Thank you for quick reply.

Re: how to manage the second backplane DL580 G5
You will have to add another Smart array controller to provide support for additional 6 HDDs
Smart Array P400i Controller
SAS Connectors
2 internal (SFF8484) x4 wide port connectors

SolutionServer should automatically detect the HDDs connected to second backplane. However you would have to confiugre these drives in ACU(Array Configuration Utility).
