how to tell if P400 or P400i in DL380G5

we have existing server DL380G5, which I couldn't identify if P400 or P400i was inside. From HP ACU tool, it just shows 256M no BBWC P400, but not sure if it really P400 not P400i.

Another quesiton, what is the meaning by saying P800 support 8 ports. I know it has 2 internal connectors, what does the 8 port mean?

hi

try opening array diagnostics utility you can get either p400 or p400i information

for the 2 question it means there is a port for every internal HDD which means up to 8 HDD internally

Hi Karlo,

thanks for your reply.

From ADU, it shows P400.

For the 8 port, why HP says P400 support up to 18 hard disk, while P400i support only 6 hard disk?
DL380G5 only have 8 hard disk slots on the server enclosure, does it make sense for P400 to support 18 hard disks internally, as it has only internal connector?

""For the 8 port, why HP says P400 support up to 18 hard disk, while P400i support only 6 hard disk?""

p400i it's like the entry level p400 that's why only handles 6 HDDs
and basically that is HP design

yes p400 can support up to 18 HDDS but it depends server's design for example Dl180 g5 supports up to 12 HDDs with P400 but in the Dl580 g5 you need 2 p400 to support your 16 HDDs

that's basically server / backplane design
you know also marketing techniques
