Re: hp dl380p gen8 ram

For detailed memory configuration rules and guidelines, please use the Online DDR3 Memory Configuration Tool: http://www.hp.com/go/ddr3memory-configurator

To maximize performance, it is recommended to balance the total memory capacity between all installed processors and to load the channels similarly whenever possible.

Hope this helps!

Re: hp dl380p gen8 ram

It would be much better to load the same amount of dimm to each CPU.

Hope this helps!

Re: hp dl380p gen8 ram

The Xeon E5-2600v1 and v2 CPUs are quad-channel.  That means if you want the best performance possible, you want to have 4 memory modules per CPU.

Also, if you want to use any of the HP advanced memory settings, you want to have each channel configured identically, and if you have dual CPUs installed it's best to have the same configuration on both CPUs.  Things like spare or mirrored memory only work with certain memory configurations.

If you don't care about the advanced features or don't care if you're not getting the best performance, and if your memory configuration is working now, then don't worry about it, but be aware that some workloads are memory dependent and will work best when everything is running as fast as it can with 4 mem channels running at top speed.
