hp ml350 power supply unit

hi, our server hpml350 g5 had no power since june 10. though we already made a diagnosis from our hp technician and he also gave us a spare of power supply unit, but unfortunately, our server still didnt boot. there were 2 amber in our front server. 1 for the system board, and the other is for the power supply. though we only have 1 power supply unit, perhaps thats the reason on our 2nd amber. but in the case of our system board, well we actually encountering this error since i dont know perhaps 6mos. if our battery shut down(drained) our server will show 2 ambers after turning it on but we only just wait for 2-3hrs and if we try to turn it on, therell be no more lights appearing.
Now that ive discussed our concern, our dilemma is our data stored in the harddisks... is there any possible way that we can get those data(enclosure perhaps)? our technician did advised us that it can be restored by means of server only, and he doesnt recommend us using enclosures (if there is such enclosure for servers)... what do you recommend with these problems in reacquiring the data in server harddisk? and also, any suggestion with our server prob?

How are these hard disks connected and configured in the server?

Are they with a raid controller? Which raid controller? You will need a server with the same or a similar raid controller to be able to access the data on the disks.

Or are they configured as single disks? In this case you can connect them to a similar interface and be able to access the data.

Re: hp ml350 power supply unit

Hi, thanks for the reply... our i.t. informed me that it was in raid 5 (though he wasnt pretty sure bout it, that's how he remembered it) also, we'll be doing what you said earlier bout trying to use the harddisk in a same server, seems our old server have an issue with the system board too. Hope that will work, coz our new server proliant 350 G6 couldnt read our harddisk, is there a problem with the new and old harddisk, we planned to make our old harddisk (72GB) a secondary to our new harddisk (142GB)

And also, is it possible to retrieve our data with the option of using our harddisk to a same server? an outside source have lended us a hand of using their server so he can see or back up the data in our harddisk file, using his server.

thanks,
dani

Re: hp ml350 power supply unit

Which raid controller were the disks attached to on the G5? Most likely it was a SAS controller, your disk sizes indicate they are SAS disks. The G6 should have read the disks, the SA controllers between the G5 and the G6 are compatibles as far as raid configuration. You should connect *all* the raid5 disks from the G5 to a new controller. Preferably a controller that does not have any other disks attached to it.
