Re: hp proliant ml350 server does not boot.

Do you get video or any POST error messages?

I suspect that you are having a faulty system board.

Re: hp proliant ml350 server does not boot.

I'd also point to the system board or the VRM.

Try Starting the server with single processor also make sure that PPM is installed properly or you can try swaping it as well. Do You get any beeps, the PROLIANT logo or anything at all.

Re: hp proliant ml350 server does not boot.

Hi Malaika

Reduce the server hardware configuration to minimum e.g. one processor, one power supply, no interface cards etc and check if there is display or else system board is suspected defective. Place a call with local HP support provider

Re: hp proliant ml350 server does not boot.

What You describe definitely comes down to system board or VRMs:
You get no info or beeping because the initial POST tests either fail or don't get started.
This usually happens if the CPU or some other core component can't work.

As You've already swapped most crucial components, there is not much left to fix, but rather something to replace.

The only other thing to generate such a complete boot failure is a IDE cable plugged in the wrong way round.

- remove all pci adapters and disk/floppy/cdrom cables.

if the problem persists, You should try to change VRM if it's socketed, and if that doesn't work, call in a tech or order a replacement system board.

Re: hp proliant ml350 server does not boot.

I have same experience with ML350 server which did not boot at initial set-up.

The root cause was one of the RAM did not plug in properly.

So, try to unplug all of your RAM and insert only one RAM than try to boot the system with single RAM plug-in.

Re: hp proliant ml350 server does not boot.

malaika,I had similar problem.I replaced system board,Processor and heatsink because it was damage and it still did not work. The LEDs on the board that was amber was processor, ppm aan ppm for second processor although I did not have a second processor. Also the overheating LED was red.I suggest you replace the Power Supply back plane board. That was my problem.Strange!!

Re: hp proliant ml350 server does not boot.

I just purchased two ML350 G4 servers recently and I had the exact same problem where the server does not boot, no display, no activity of any kind.

Here's the trick:

pull out the vertically placed lithium Battery on the motherboard and turn on the server. The POST will not start immediately so hold on a minute. If you've exhausted all other possibilities and you're sure that there's no hardware fault, then this should do the trick.

If the server boots successfully, turn it off and re-seat the battery. It should be normal from this point on.

If you're using a RAID card, check the LEDs.

Re: hp proliant ml350 server does not boot.

I have been experiencing a similar problem with my Proliant ML350 (Gen 1) Server running Windows 2000 Server in that the video does not show anything when I plug the power cord in. Seems to be hanging up in the initial Post Routine.
Also, the CD Rom Drive does not seem to have any power as the light does not come on and I can not open the CD with Power. I have replace the Special Feature Board (which contains the Video Adapter), the Power Supply, System Board and the Power On/Off Switch. The power on switch is always lit up and it appears to be turned on as soon as I plug the power cord to the outlet. Holding the On/Off Switch in does not shut down the server.
My next step is to install a new CPU Processor and the Processor Power Module (PPM). I will be at wits end if the problem continues since the cost of the parts are exceeding replacing the server.
