hp smartarray 4.02 fw update does not recognize HP P840 controller, exit status 3 in RHEL7.1

Hi,

I'm trying to update controller firmware 4.02 on Proliant DL380 G9 server having P840 Controller with current firmware version 3.00 but seems the "hpsetup" does not regognize my controller at all. Update newer "hpsa" driver for RHEL7.1 but no help... please see below:

there is this note too:

In order to be detected properly, some controllers may need a newer version of the Smart Array driver installed prior to upgrading the controller firmware.  If not installed, the component will fail with return code 3.

Looks like there is another driver available:

version 3.4.14-118, you are using 3.4.14-116

You may consider to add this firmware to SPP and update the controller in an offline session (boot SPP).

Hi Torsten,

For RHEL7, the newest hpsa driver is still 3.4.14-116 which is installed.

Also the firmware that I'm trying to update is the (B) version of 4.02, the newest available.

May need to consider the offline update if no solution found for this.
