ide hard disk installation

I tried to install an ide hard disk into my server, by connecting it to the controller and to the electricity' but it seems that the bios can't find it' even after I enabled the ide controller through the bios.
how can I install an ide hard disk into the compaq proliant 800 server?

According to the manual for my Proliant 800 (the PPro model):

"The Proliant 800 does not support the installation of IDE fixed disks.."

Perhaps that has changed, but...
