in place upgrade of array contoller

i have a little ML310 that is already installed and running. I would like upgrade the controller that is in it because disk I/O is a performance issue. Currently, the controller that is installed is the HP SC40Ge. I wanted to power the system down and install an HP Smart Array P400 with 512MB of cache and attach it to the current disk. is this possible?

Re: in place upgrade of array contoller

It is possible to change the SC40Ge, for an smart array P400, the P400 is SAS and SATA. It will detect the hard drives, even though if you question is: will the Smart array P400 load the existing OS? that will not be possible, becuase the SC40Ge uses different drivers than the P400, so they array will not load. You need to install the OS again using the appropiate drivers
