increase (!) Fan speed on Proliant 585G5

Hello,

After the install of some additional NICs it was advised to increase (max) the fan speed of our Proliant 585 G5's.

We do use the HP SNMP Agents to monitor the hardware. The boxes are running VMWare ESX 3.5.

Google might be my friend, but only shows result for lowering the fan speed.

Thanks,

Re: increase (!) Fan speed on Proliant 585G5

Hi!

Why wouldn't this be done via BIOS?
Is the server actually running warmer after you installed the extra NICs?

Re: increase (!) Fan speed on Proliant 585G5

Hi,

We have exactly the same problem. The general internal temperature of the servers don't rise (much) but the temperature of the NIC's themselves are quite hot.

We were planning to increase the fan speed to allow additional airflow to cool them down.

BIOS setting is not an option because as soon as the OS start with the hpasm drivers, they kick in and control the temperature / fan's etc..

Removing the hpasm resulst in no longer able to monitor general system health.

Cheers

Still no solution found.

Anyone else an idea how to increase the fan speed ?
