installing/recognizing new drives

I have a 5500R with a SmartArray 3200 installed. It had 4 drives in cage A originally & I've run the erase utility and then installed 4 additional drives in the 2nd internal cage but the unit will not recognize them. The drives in cage B get power when I install them but that's it. It only recognized the drives A. It's something simple I'm missing since I have a 2nd 5500 & I get the same problem on it. What am I missing?

Re: installing/recognizing new drives

You MUST populate cage 1 first, unless this is a duplex cage wired properly to the controller...

Re: installing/recognizing new drives

Thanks for the reply. This is a duplex cage. Each cage has a scsi connector. I have a cable running from the array controller to cage 1 and then to cage 2 where it terminates. But the unit continually wants to see only one cage. I've tried different variations in cabling but nothing works. I've run erase but still get the same problem. Is there a secret to how it should be cabled?
