is there a way to physically upgrade the ILO chip to ILO2?

Hello,

Recently we purchased several DL380 G5 servers which came built-in with ILO2. I have been very satisfied with ILO2 on these particular servers -- much easier/smoother to work with than ILO and not as clunky (support for non Java based navigation).

We also have a pair of ML350 G4 servers which were purchased in June 2006. Based on the list of servers ILO2 is supported on ML350G4 is not one of those supported servers (ML350G5 is – go figure). Is there a way of physically replacing the ILO chip with the new and improved ILO2 chip? I hate to be penalized for not waiting 2 months until the G5 units came out last year.

Please comment. Thanks

Mike

Sorry, Karlo, that's the now-discontinued Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition II board, which, by the way, offered equivalent performance to iLO1.

Mike, no, the iLO2 chip is a different architecture that iLO1 and is not plug-compatible. Even if it was, some of the performance boost comes from newer technologies in some of the other components such as the video chip on the motherboard.
