management agent & snmp

my some systems have installed "compaq management agent" without snmp. i don't use Insight Manager and don't care that. i just wonder local mechanism related to SNMP.

1. what problem can occur on those systems?

2. is it possible to monitor subsystems?

3. is it possible to log into system event and compaq log viewer?

4. i'd like to acquire the mechanism. do U know where white paper related to the mechanism is ?

Re: management agent & snmp

The best answer to your questions would be if you just go to the system mamagement page : https://servername:2381
and see what is available. Though the agents should be configured before you could log in. SNMP is not necessary though highly desirable.

Re: management agent & snmp

thanks U for your reply.

I went to the system management page. There is only "survey category" on the left. Not Management Agent category.

This means is that Management Agent is not operating properly.

so, Monitoring subsystem and loging event that is major function is not operate.

is it right? please help me..

Re: management agent & snmp

Hi,

Not sure what you are looking for but anyway, have you tried using "Control Panel" --> "Compaq Management Agents" applet?

Re: management agent & snmp

I think the best way would be to install latest Support Pack
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/17675.html
and see then what is possible without SNMP. BTW is it critical not to run SNMP?

Re: management agent & snmp

Check the Windows services. If there's no Management Agents webpage, it usually means the Compaq Web Agent is not running or installed. Or with current versions, it's called the HP Insight Web Agent.

Re: management agent & snmp

thanks for your interesting.

Compaq Agents are already been "start".
but, only Compaq Web Agent is been "disabled".

this problem is occured that SSD is installed without SNMP.

anyway, the point of my question is that it's possible to monitor subsystem and log event without snmp.

help me one more , please & have a good day.

Re: management agent & snmp

All the monitoring agents need SNMP to work. Instead of Insight 7.2, why don't you try Insight Manager 5.

Yes it's possible to monitor subsystems, but you need the agents installed.

The log viewer needs the service "Compaq Remote Monitor" to be usable.
