memory installation problem

Hi,

I have a couple of Compaq ProLiant ML370, which each has a single PIII 1GHz/133MHz and a couple of 128MB DIMMS.

I took one of the DIMMs into our local computer store to see if I could get an upgrade. They gave me DIMMs that look like they should work when I compared what was written on the label - ecc 133MHz etc etc. It fits and everything, but when I plug it in and switch it on, it isn't recognised - it only recognises the 128MB DIMMs that were already in there.

Can someone enlighten me? Is there an online installation guide?

I am fairly sure my computer is the original version (G1?); it has a white/beige case with a clear plastic door on the front.

Looking at the Kingston web site leads me to think that the memory is nothing special. Am I wrong?

as you notice in above reply, the 128 MB ECC DIMMs installed in your server are " slightly " properiatary.these RAM sticks have some spaecific information on theis SPD chip, which gets recognised in the servers for which it is meant for. putting normal ECC DIMMs will not solve your purpose, because that willnot have the SPD information required by your server. I believe you can get the appropriate RAM sticks from HP , and may be from kingston also ( but you should order based on the exact part no of your existing RAM).
