According to the document referenced below, there is a migration path from RAID0 (striping) to RAID1 (mirroring), but I'm pretty sure your existing configuration of 1x36GB must have been setup using hardware-based RAID:

Is this the case? Are you using an array controller in the server and if so, which model?

sure it is possible stick another disk.
after you plug in you can see the disk as following;
#ioscan
and
#ioscan -funCdisk
and check is there mirror-ux installed or not,
#swlist -l fileset|grep -i mirror
if it's installed tell me ,i will post you howto mirrorinf disk step by step with mirror-ux

yes it is setup via hardware raid as opposed to software raid, i have a 5i card i think it says when the server boots up
