I have a DL580 G1 with 8GB of ram. During the boot process all 8GB initialize, but when the operating system boots up it only shows 7.5 GB available. I have found an article on Technet that show where the os will use about 500MB if the system has the 8-way symmetric multiple-processing chipset, but this server has a 4-way ServerWorks Enterprise ServerSet III-HE chipset.
Anyone else seen this problem and what did you do about it?

Solution
Hello;
More than likely the memory-count difference you are seeing from the OS is because of the amount of memory reserved at the BIOS level for hot-plug PCI support.
If you are not using the hot-plug feature on any PCI slots, you can disable it in the server BIOS and reclaim the memory for use in the OS.
Cheers,
Janine
