ml 350 g5 e200i raid 1
Hello,
I configure the raid 1 with the Smart Array E200i controller and two 500GB HD.
The problem is that I have only one disk for the time being, the more I will come in a few days.
I can start installing the operating system and then add the second disc?
I can create a raid with one disk and then later add the second disk in the logical volume?
what procedure should I follow?
thanks

Re: ml 350 g5 e200i raid 1
HI PinoGiuseppe,
for Raid 1 configuration, minimum 2 disks are required.
however, you may create raid 0 with 1 disk and install the OS. later on when you add another disk in the same array you can migrate the raid volume 0 to raid volume 1.
Please note : you need an additional 128MB Battery-Backed Write Cache (BBWC) 351580-B21
in order to enables RAID 5, Capacity Expansion, RAID migration, and Stripe Size Migration.
if you already have 128 BBWC.. you can go ahead with this task.
Also, would like to inform you that on smart array controller, you won't be able to install the operating system without creating the raid volume.. in other words there has be a raid volume configured inorder to install the os
Hope this helps,
thanks,
Aftab
