ml350 and raid 5 rebuild time ( Smart array 641)

I have a 4 drive raid 5 partition. All the drives are 300GB. I replaced one drive which was faulty yesterday lunctime and looked this morning and its still rebuilding?

Should it be taking this long?

Our Netservers used to be very quick when doing the same job. Are the old Netraid adaptors better than the new Proliant Smart array controllers? surely not?

can anybody point me to a whitepaper or any info on this on HP's web site? I.E rebuild performance on 641's

thanks

Re: ml350 and raid 5 rebuild time ( Smart array 641)

Hi Peter
Ideally the time taken for rebuilding RAID is at abt 15 mins per GB.Some of the dependent factors are
The time required for a rebuild varies considerably, depending on several factors:
-Priority that the rebuild is given over normal I/O operations (this can be changed using ACU from the SMARTStart CD)
-Amount of I/O activity during the rebuild operation.
-Rotational speed of the hard drives, brand, model & age of the drives
-Availability of drive cache.
-Amount of unused capacity on the drives.
-Number of drives in the array (for RAID 5 and RAID ADG)

I dont have access to a white whitepaper as you requested.Sorry about that.
