Cesar:

If your server came with a Smart Array Controller, then you can set up a Hardware based Mirror with your Drives.

If not, and all you have is the onboard controller, then you can only create a Software based Mirror (OS based Mirroring)

Which model did you get? (Whats the part number)

Re: ml350

That model comes with an integrated dual channel Ultra320 SCSI adapter. I don't think your going to be able to mirror (HP guys need to back that up ... I've never done a Hi-Perf server w/out a SA controller).

Re: ml350

It looks like that model does NOT come standard with a Smart Array Controller. If you did not order one with the server, then all you have is an onboard SCSI controller. You can configure Software/OS based mirroring, but not Hardware based.

Additionally, the only F8 prompt you should get is for configuring the iLo interface. (unless you bought a SMart Array and it was installed before shipment).

Re: ml350

Install the Operating System first, on a single drive.

Once installed, you should be able create a mirrored volume in Disk Management as long as you have a second available disk.

I haven't done this in so long. Not even sure how anymore. I will do some testing on my vmware test box.

Re: ml350

The process would be...

1. Install your OS on a single disk.
2. In Disk Management, Convert the OS disk and the future mirror disk to Dynamic (after OS is installed). Reboot is requested
3. In Disk Management, right click your OS Disk (C:) and select Add Mirror.
4. Select the Second Disk and click Add Mirror.
5. Update boot.ini file to alow booting from mirrored disk, if necessary
6. Disks sync up and... Complete!
