move disks to another Controller raid P400
Hello,
I have a server hp proliant dl380 g5 with 6 disks.
I configuerd RAID1 array (mirroring) with 2 disks for the OS windows 2003 R2 enterprise edition
and RAID5 array with 3 disks and 1 spare disk for the data partitions .
I have also a virtual server installed in one partition in the logical drive (raid 5) (with virtual server 2005);
Both raid1 and raid5 are created AND controlled by one controller hp smart array E200.
Now we buy another raid controller hp smart array P400.
I'd want to keep the raid 1 system with the ancient raid controller E200
and move the raid 5 which contains data and server virtual machine to the new raid controller P400.
How could I do that without making any reinstall?
if I can do it, is there any impact on the server virtual machine installed in one partition of the logical drive (raid 5) ?

Re: move disks to another Controller raid P400
Hello,
this should be possible. The metadata is stored on the disks. Shutdown the server and transfer the disks, that belongs to the array, to the new controller. While booting, the controller should regorgnize the disks and the logical drive. The driver should be the same for the smart array controller series.
Best regards,
Patrick
