need to add 2 cpu's to proliant 5500...how to make work?
I've been looking through faq's and several docs to see what are the steps to add 2 cpu's to a proliant 5500. It's got 2 already, I want to make it 4 total. I tried adding them with the power modules but the server won't start.
What else should I do??
Thanks,
Oskar

Re: need to add 2 cpu's to proliant 5500...how to make work?
"The Compaq ProLiant 5500 6/500 or 6/550 Models support mixing processors of different cache sizes but requires the following:
Use processors of the same speed
Mix cache size in pairs"

Maybe your processor\s or power module\s are failed? Or are not safely plugged in socket?

Re: need to add 2 cpu's to proliant 5500...how to make work?
All I do is add the cpu's and power modules, then when I boot the server it should automatically see the 2 additional processors?
I just want to make sure. From doing research I've found some references to modifying bios settings. But the references are difficult to understand.

Re: need to add 2 cpu's to proliant 5500...how to make work?
Friend.
A Compaq ProLiant 5500 6/500 model support mixing processors of different cache sizes but does not support processor frequency mixing.
You can do one thing;
1) Find out whether both the CPU is of same cache size & frequency.
2) Then Update the Rompaq of the Server.
If you will go ahead with this Step your server will run fine.
Please find the Cpu Details:-
