pci seriel controller

I recently upgraded from win98 to WinMe on my compaq 5030 pent.2 300mhz cpu. everything took well to the upgrade except one thing.
I cannot get my computer to identify that i have a modem installed, i keeps telling my to load driver for the pci serial controller, it serches for the driver and there is none to locate. How would i get ahold of a driver for a pci card? ive tried both the compaq and microsoft website for a updated driver but nothing was avalible. any one with the answer please let me know.
