poor drive performance

ML370R 800Mhz, 512 MB Ram, Integrated Smart Controller, 3 x 18 GB drives, Raid 5.
As a file server, the file performance is good for document retrieval and copy processes. Poor performance for end user using MS Backup to backup server data to laptop. Process is taking 4 times as long as on Previous Proliant 1600 (166 Mhz, 256 MB RAM).

Re: poor drive performance

have a look at your NIC, don?t use Full Duplex mode.
have a look at your Anti Virus Software, something different to your PL1600?
A file don't?I use the processor much. Never use raid5 on nt4 System drive!!
Use Raid 1 for NT System drive!! Use Raid 5 only for Filesystem.
Raid5 with 3 Drive hase a poor performance at write. Nt4 write every time!
