primary IDE controller (device failed to start)

HELPHELP!!!

Everything in my puter works except my cdrom drives. I have swapped my drives and still nothing. Can someone help? I can't even restore because the restore disk is cdrom.

Make sure use original cable
Setting for Cable select (CS)
See if device detected over POST
Run F10 partition Hardware Update if F9 based verify boot and POST
... More info always good, server model, type of Cd rom

my puter is compaq 5012us other than that I don't have the info on the cdroms/dvd
I looked at the f10 info and still nothing is working right
