problems booting with kernel 2.4.x

Has anyone succesfully booted off the latest kernel 2.4.x on a proliant 5500? My configuration fails to initialize scsi devices at bootup.
btw, 2.2.x works fine. Help :)

I have a quad processor Pentium pro that will boot with a single processor kernel but not an amp kernel. it also worked fine under the 2.2.x kernel.

it hangs up when it reads the partition table.

This kernel should work, I would make sure you are using the latest one to get the latest drivers, and also make sure all the firmware on the system is up to date.
