Re: proliant 1600

Mark:

Here's the link for NW6 (I believe it will work for NW6.5, as well):

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/66_1126.html#6

for Pentium II and III models, I believe it's the top driver (Compaq) for the onboard NIC.

Re: proliant 1600

Mark:

The NC**** NICs (I believe) are all PCI NICs. The onboard NIC doesn't have a NC**** designation, to my knowledge.

I believe you didn't install the download correctly. Here are the directions:

"Installation

Download the Smart Component to a directory on your hard drive. Copy the Smart Component to a directory on your NetWare server. The downloaded file is a self-extracting NLM with a filename based on the Smart Component Number.

From the volume and directory where the Smart Component was copied, run the downloaded file from the System Console. Press the key to proceed with the installation. The contents of the Smart Component will automatically be installed on the server."

I'm a bit rusty on my Netware but I believe you need to issue a LOAD CP003754.NLM from the console. This will extract the files (and, I assume, put them where they belong). I assume there are existing MSM and ETHERTSM commands in the bootup files which will use the new files when you reboot next. Alternatively, I suppose you could avoid a reboot by manually unloading the appropriate files and reloading them to get the new ones into memory. Then load the NIC file.

HTH

Re: proliant 1600

Mark:

Try this download. It can be extracted in DOS or Windows and there is access to the actual .lan file(s):

Re: proliant 1600

hi i installed a different card into the machine a compaq 10/100 TX pci card in slot 3 this was detected in the N100 driver (i think) and installation went ahead ok

it worked for about 1/2 an hour after installation and then it just started to go crazy with network utilisation rising past 40 % and was collising with every packet sent (any ideas )

i have managed to load the onboard one on today using the NLM packet on a pci port of 10006

Re: proliant 1600

Hi Mark,

For what it's worth you can actually open the NLM bundle from Windows which Roger pointed to in his first reply.

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/18742.html

Copy the file to your system and open it using Winzip. You can then extract the individual files, including the CPQNF3.LAN file you need. The whole kit will fit on one floppy disk.

I hope this helps.

Re: proliant 1600

Mark,

What is the spare part number for the board you have installed? There will be a label on it stating "Use Compaq spare part #" XXXXXX-XXX.

Thanks,

Re: proliant 1600

hi sorry my mistake the board is actually a 3 com EtherLink XL 10/100 For Complete Pc Management NIC (3C905C-TX)

and was working fine untill about 30 mins after installation of netware when it just started to go crazy, it was just colliding and network utilisation went through the roof

since i have got the onboard one working there is no need for the additional board so it has been removed

thanks everyone for their help as you have helped solved my problems

Re: proliant 1600

Mark:

Here is the link for the drivers for the 3COM card:

http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/result.jsp?selected=5&sort=effdt&sku=3C905C-TX-M&order=desc

The driver there is 1.5 years old so it may not solve your problem. What kind of hub/switch are you plugging it into?

Re: proliant 1600

actually the driver is included with netware6 so it auto installed during setup

i am using a baystack 150 (old but is able to show hub utilisation and collisions as a number not just a flshing light)

btw: the card is working fine in a 2500R server with win2k adv server

Are both drivers the same version?
