proliant 1800
I have the error:
1783-Slot 7 Drive Array Controller Failure
Can you tell me:
Is Slot 7 Hot Pluggable?
Do you think it could be the CMOS battry on the SMART-2SL
If battery, do you know where I can get one?
Many thanks,
Sean

Re: proliant 1800
Did you attempt to update the bios on the Smart-2 controller?
Error 1783 is typical of this if the power went out during the update.
If you were not updating the bios, you can try and reseat the controller in the PCI slot or if that does not work, in another PCI slot.
If the controller does not return to a good state, you will need to replace the controller.
Here is a document that can help you in the migration to a newer controller if you cannot get another Smart-2:

Let us know if you need more help. -john

Re: proliant 1800
I did not attempt to change anything. It is a customers server and he has called me for help. I know that this occured after a power failure to the building.
I will certainly try your suggestions when I visit client next week.
I did read somewhere that if the controllers cmos battery is flat you wont experience problems until you cold boot.. In your opinion could this also be a possibility?
Many thanks,
Sean

Re: proliant 1800
They need to replace it. I recommend a SmartArray 221 controller as the migration path for the controller shows this as the logical step:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?locale=en_US&taskId=115&prodSeriesId=374783&prodTypeId=329290&objectID=c00180566
ProLiant Troubleshooting Guide:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/UCR/SupportManual/TPM_338615-2/TPM_338615-2.pdf
start on page 251
I hope this info helps. -john
