proliant 400 memory upgrade

Can I upgrade my Proliant 400 with two 256 MB SDRAM DIMM protected ECC 100 MHZ chips from a Proliant 8500 server (compaq part# 110958-032)?
The Proliant 400 uses unregistered ECC 100 MHZ memory.
Thank you.

Re: proliant 400 memory upgrade

Hi Sunil,

Thank you very much for your answer.
I understand the part numbers you mentioned are the valid ones for the Proliant 400, but I heard that the protected ram from the 8500 server would work on computers using unregistered memory.
I have the opportunity to purchased this memory at a very reduced price and was trying to find out if it would really work.

Re: proliant 400 memory upgrade

Hello Marcelo,
We have not tried installing the RAM which is meant for a different server. The best way to find out would be to try installing and if there is a problem then you would know.

Re: proliant 400 memory upgrade

Proliant 8500 SDRAM, PC100 â ¢ CL=2 â ¢ Registered â ¢ ECC â ¢ 100MHz â ¢ 3.3V â ¢ 128Meg x 72

Proliant 400 SDRAM, PC100 â ¢ CL=2 â ¢ Unbuffered â ¢ ECC â ¢ 100MHz â ¢ 3.3V â ¢ 16Meg x 72

Nothing more than a 128 Module is listed to work in the 400 and it is non registered and unbuffered. There only $70 each.
It is a crap shoot whether it work
