proliant 6000 finding drives

i have a proliant 6000 s/hand and it had the info
wiped as the o/s password was lost.
sadly, even using the smartstart software we can
find an array at boot but it say cannot find scsi devices. we need to be able to boot to a drive in order to load the o/s.We have a es3100 card which is not pci and therefore not automatic config.
the array config files will not fit on a floppy drive so it seems that in order to load an o/s we need to install the array software on a boot drive that already has the o/s!
aaaargh! any ideas out there?
it's like we have a brand new pro 6000 box and need to set it up -but it does not support ide and cannot find the scsi drives at the bios level.

Hi,

I believe you are using the supported SS (upto Ver 5.0 only).

Since it's a very old workhorse, I dint recollect, but I think there are some utilities inside the ROM (similar to ACU/ RBSU), or you can use a set of floppies (the utilities can be downloaded from compaq site, or may be you are having a CD from which you can extract the same in floppies).

Your server needs SmartStart 5.5 or earlier. If you have another system you can extract the floppies from it.

hi mark,
thank-you for your reply, i am already using
the 5.5, i can use the array diag and see the
logical array and all 4 drives
it is in slot 11 whicj=h is a 64 bit pci with extended scsi- and the error message i get is-
" array accelerator parity read error:2"
i an unable to define this further.
i shifted the board into slot 10 and it made no difference.
any ideas? i just need to load a linux o/s onto the drive and then i should get some control of this beast.

Hello Kim

The proliant 6000 has a scsi connector on board. If you do not have to use the raid card, pull it and put the cable on the scsi connector.
This will let the system see the drives.

The parity error could be the card, cabling or resource conflict.
