proliant 800 will not post

I add a second processor and a new VRM to my porliant. When I powered up, I got the message, processor in wrong slot. I changed back to the configuration I had and still get the same error message. Any suggestions?

John:

Have you installed the latest bios?

Make sure the Processor and the PPM are firmly installed. They may be loose.

You also need to run the System Configuration Utility to capture the new processor configuration.
Enjoy!

I downloaded the flash update, but the proliant never gets to the point of seeing the floppy. Again, it says the processor in incorrect slot. I placed the switch for the floppy in the on position. (According to the cover, SW-1 is where you can enable the floppy override and enter the maintenance mode.)

When you remove the processor "and" PPM from socket 2, does it still say "Processor in Incorrect Slot"?
Enjoy!

Re: proliant 800 will not post

-Yes. I have swapped processors and vrm's. The only difference in the processors is the last four digits of the serial number. 400/512/100/20/s1. 19270759-0327 is one serial #. The other 19270759-0357. I just went to turn it on and it decided to boot. Thanks.
