Re: proliant ML360 generation 3

Hi Lesley:

First of all the DL360G3 only holds 2 physical drives.

Did you mean DL380G3

1- make sure that the firmware for the 5i controller is uptodate 2.58 is the latest.

2- What operating system; and also make sure you are using the latest HP Array config. utility.

3- you can do this at the hardware level with no issues; adding more space to the physical drive.

first Expand the array
then Extend the logical drive

This is at the hardware level.
once that is done and complete then from Windows if it is windows; you will have to use 3rd party software to extend that partion to be included in the d:\ drive etc.

Each Logical drive is one physical drive in windows or Netware.

example;

Array A:
Logical drive 1 Raid 1
Logical drive 2 Raid 5;

in windows ;

logical drive 1 = disk 0 (o/s) c:\
logical drive 2 = disk 1 (data) D:\

lets say you are adding that physical 6th drive to Array A: logical drive 2.

then you will see

D: partion and at the end of it unallocated space. ; you can create new drive letter and (2ndary partion) or use 3rd party partioning software to add the space to D: drive.

HP has few documents on this and you can refer to MS articles for the Disk management software part of it.

Re: proliant ML360 generation 3

okay so make sure you have sp3 minimum under windows 2000.

1- firmware for server 2.58
2- ACU latest
3- sp3 min.
4- expand Array
5- extend Logical drive.

Re: proliant ML360 generation 3

You can just add the drive to the empty slot; either Hotplug when server is running and run the ACU ; or shutdown the server and boot up to ACU or o/S.

and you can do the expansion and extention.

Re: proliant ML360 generation 3

I might add that if Lesleys original array was set up as dynamic. (computer mgmnt - disk manager) then all she has to do as a final step is choose the option to "extend volume" - no need to buy 3'rd party software.
