First of all..what hardware do you have? DL360 g1? with what kind of smart array controller?
Probably you have a smartstart version that doesn't support the smart array controller.

Re: proliant dl360 os upgrade and smart array probs

The ProLiant DL360G1 has a Compaq Integrated Smart Array Controller. This controller needs to be set as the first boot device in the system configuration.

Insert your SmartStart 5.xx CD and run the System Erase Utility. This will remove any previous configurations and partitions from the server. This will set the server back to what it was like when it left the factory floor.

After the system re-boots from the system erase you boot back into SmartStart. This will now take you through an assisted installation of the System Configuration Utility and the install of the Win2K O/S.
During the System Configuration, you will be prompted to select the boot controller (i.e., the Integrated Smart Array Controller); Be Sure To Select This!

After that, the SmartStart will prepare the system partiton and begin the process of installing your O/S.

If you need them, after your system is built, here is a link to the latest drivers and software for Win2K on the DL360G1:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/20_1123.html

I highly recommend that you update the bios on the system and controller at some point. And then run the PSP to install all the latest drivers and system agents.

G'luck! -john
Enjoy!

Re: proliant dl360 os upgrade and smart array probs

you can see the type of controller during p.o.s.t.
During smart array selftest you can see the type and version of firmware of it.

Re: proliant dl360 os upgrade and smart array probs

Tim:

You can "configure" this system using the diskette version of the SCU:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/13227.html

This will allow you to configure the server for windows and get you on your way. It is likely that your array configuration is still good (Set up as a Mirror?) and you do not need to configure that.

If you wiped it out, I am not completely sure the Integrated Smart Array can be configured with the ACU diskette version, but here it is:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/proworkstation/us/download/8605.html
Enjoy!
