proliant dl360

hello;

i just bought a compaq proliant dl360 server. it boots up fine and it was able to boot up from windows 2000. that told me the system is fine.

here is my problem: it could not boot from freebsd, or even windows xp. it can't be hardwired only for certain os, right?

also how could i get into bios mode?

Re: proliant dl360

seems to be that i need to use smart start software. 7.80 is the most recent version but it doesn't work for dl360. tried 5.50 but it contains virus....

any other ideas?

thanks

Re: proliant dl360

is anywhere i can download smartstart 5.50? i did download 5.50 from ftp.compaq.com and it has trojan horse virus in it (i guess that site had been compromised and "compaq" is clueless about that).

no matter what i need the "smartstart" software, am i right?

Re: proliant dl360

thanks. the link is actaully redirected to ftp.compaq.com; the same like i used and downed the 5.50 that contains virus. i did succesfully downloaded 7.80 which is clean. btw, 7.80 is not on that ftp server.

i really don't have to install freebsd. the first thing i would like to get this box up.

5.51? i don't see that on version on hp web site.

Re: proliant dl360

Hello,
The link is for 5.5

HP SmartStart CD
version 5.50 (27 Aug 02)
├В┬╗ revision history

It downloads from the FTP site !

HP DISTRIBUTING VIRUS FRoM ITS FTP SITE ????
I hope moderators are reading !(to report the flaw, if it exists !)
I personally cannot comment to that, however I can download & scan for the same !
Which Antivirus did u use to scan it ?

IPFREAK, if u say it has viruses, U can also report this.

Towards the END of the page, there is "WEBMASTER FEEDBACK" >> server.feedback@hp.com

They will do the needful.

Re: proliant dl360

Hi ipfreak,

The dl360 G1 through G4 runs FreeBSD with no problem. You are strongly advised to install the current release, FreeBSD 6.2 RELEASE.

If you install it from the installation CD and install the standard boot loader it should boot fine. I am assuming that you are using the standard SCSI controller.

You do not need the smartstart CD or any HP tool.

NOTE: the ACPI bios of the Proliant G1 is incompatible with any version of FreeBSD before 6.1. RELEASE. This ACPI implementation is also the reason that you cannot boot from Windows XP. I experienced the same issue. The ACPI kernel module of FreeBSD from 6.1 on is adapted to this erroneous bios. You may be able to find information on this issue if you search the internet.

cheers,
