i just bought a compaq proliant dl360 server. it boots up fine and it was able to boot up from windows 2000. that told me the system is fine.
here is my problem: it could not boot from freebsd, or even windows xp. it can't be hardwired only for certain os, right?
also how could i get into bios mode?

Re: proliant dl360
The dl360 G1 through G4 runs FreeBSD with no problem. You are strongly advised to install the current release, FreeBSD 6.2 RELEASE.
If you install it from the installation CD and install the standard boot loader it should boot fine. I am assuming that you are using the standard SCSI controller.
You do not need the smartstart CD or any HP tool.
NOTE: the ACPI bios of the Proliant G1 is incompatible with any version of FreeBSD before 6.1. RELEASE. This ACPI implementation is also the reason that you cannot boot from Windows XP. I experienced the same issue. The ACPI kernel module of FreeBSD from 6.1 on is adapted to this erroneous bios. You may be able to find information on this issue if you search the internet.
cheers,
digid
