"180-Log Reinitialized because length check out of bound"

Our Compaq Proliant 3000 series server restart itself very often recently. After the server reboot, we will see the error: "180-Log Reinitialized because length check out of bound". At this point, I either power it OFF and ON it again or I pressed F1 to continue.
There is no work done on the server for the last few months, why is this error suddenly appearing? Is this error caused the server to reboot itself?

Please advise.

Thanks!
Regards,
Alan

Re: "180-Log Reinitialized because length check out of bound"

hi Alan,

server restart & log error are different problems. first , for resolution of log srror problem, you have to clear system log ( for that you have to go to setup (SCU)). this error gets displayed if your server log is full.

for second error, you have to check in event viewer or IMlog what exaclty the problem which is causing the server reboot. there are so many possibilities behind it.

let us know about the event error to sugest you further resoultion.

Thanks for the reply.

What is SCU? System Configuration Utility? I press F10 to go to the setup but couldn't find any place to clear system log. By the way, the error "180-Log Reinitialized because length check out of bound" don't appear in every bootup. So far it appears only when the server reboot by itself and stop at the bootup process.

In the event viewer I can only see two errors:

One is event 6008 with description:
The previous system shutdown at 8:10:28 PM on 7/17/04 was unexpected.

then follow by one event ID 4188 with description:
The Compaq System Management Driver has detected that the system encountered an NT bugcheck prior to this boot. The bugcheck data was: STOP: 0x0000000A (0x2400000C, 0x0000001C, 0x00000001, 0x801161BB).
let us know about the event error to sugest you further resoultion.

Nothing much info that I can find elsewhere.

Please advise.

Thanks!
