raid 5 possible issue

DL380G3 with Array5i controller,

Here is my story: Currently im using Raid5 with 4 x 146GB physical disks, recently replaced the faulty disk and is rebuilding slowly(Is rebuild priority can be configured/set to medium or high?).
My concern is that, what if another disk will going to fail while the recently replaced disk rebuilding is in progress, is there a possiblity that i will lost the data?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Re: raid 5 possible issue

hi fushigi

yes rebuild priority can be changed

- open array configuration utility
- select your controller
- select controller setting options (right side)
- change it to high
* you can change it at any time

you other question: Yes, since your RAID 5 right now is in not fault tolerance mode so if another HDD fails your RAID 5 will be completely affected since RAID 5 only supports 1 HDD failed instead of RAID 6 that supports 2 HDDs failed

that's why always it's a good practice to have backup

Hi Karlo,

Thanks for the response.
Just to confirm, did you mean that I can change the rebuild priority even the disk rebuilding is in progress? Sorry for asking redundant question, just need to confirm since the box is in critical production.

Re: raid 5 possible issue

Hi,
You can change the rebuild priority of your smart array at any time.
But, if you want to have availability on data when a disk is rebuilding without any risk so you can use RAID-6.
This RAID supports 2 disk failure at the same time.
