server hanging

server hanging

Since last year this server has been intermittently hanging. Sometimes twice a day, sometimes once a fortnight. The symptoms are the same - the system freezes and all the RAID array lights are full on. Nothing is being written to any logs or to Insight Manager. The only recourse we have is to physically turn it off and on again.

The processors have been swapped over, a new system board installed (after which the server keyboard could be used) and a new RAID array controller installed. The problem still persists.

The frustration level is extremely high and any solutions or assistance would be most helpful.

Re: server hanging

I have gone round and round with this one. When using a debug version of NTDETECT it hangs on the mouse driver. We discovered that using a KVM switch with a longer mouse cable it will hang occasionally. When a mouse is plugged directly into the server it boots every time. This happens in both 2000 and NT 4.0. Hope this solves your problem.
