server hangs on rebooting on server service

Hi Everyone-

I have a DL360 server that hangs on reboot. It stays on "applying computer settings" for 32 minutes and finally comes up with the "some services could not start" error message before logging in. It looks like the service that is stuck is "server" and I have to go in and manually start it after I log in. Any clue as to how to determine why this service isn't starting correctly?

Thanks!

Re: server hangs on rebooting on server service

Hi Greg,

I assume you are using W2K srv on this server. If yes, first apply SP4, and then windows updates on this.second, check the network adapter priority in the tools > advance options tab of network connections page, and make sure the main network adapter should be upmost.third, check your DNS serevr settings for this.

Pl let me know for further progress.

Re: server hangs on rebooting on server service

Greg,

This used to happen in NT4 when the network was configured AFTER a service pack had been installed. Since the network had never been configured, the SRV.SYS (Server Service) did not get updated by the service pack since it wasn't active at the time of the update.

It might be unrelated but applying the service pack again should fix it (Since the network is now active -the SRV.SYS WILL be updated too.)

Just a thought.

Re: server hangs on rebooting on server service

Hi Brian-

Actually I think the problem happened after I applied service packs.

Re: server hangs on rebooting on server service

Greg,

I've got the same problem on a Win 2003 SP1 server running Support Pack 7.4.

HP Support don't know what's happening either.

Did you ever find the cause\solution?

Thanks
