Re: server is unresponsive when transferring files

Hi,

try disabling TCP Offload Engine and RSS from the network configuration utility. When enabled those option can cause known performance issue.I have attached a screenshot.

If that does not help:
Which PSP version are you using?
Try with PSP 7.91 - the newest NIC drivers are there

Re: server is unresponsive when transferring files

ok i tried the offload thing and it has help a bit...I can use the system now its just VERY sluggish. im just using the PSP that came with the system however iv already been to HP's site and updated the NIC drivers.

any ideas?

cheers

Re: server is unresponsive when transferring files

Hello Johnathan,
I had exactly the same issue very recently, where the Actual "Server Unresponsive" was due to the "Drive Cache" being disabled.

I believe copying "small files" across the network on this server is not an issue.

Enable "Drive Cache"; or try adding 512 BBWC to your controller.

Regards.

PS: I recognize, you hail from Orissa; Nice to meet ya.

Re: server is unresponsive when transferring files

hey Happy Dude!

pleased to meet you too :D!it-s such a small world

could you explain to me how to enable drive cache?

This would be appreciated!

Regards,

Jonny.

Re: server is unresponsive when transferring files

Hello Jonathan,

I am referring to the DISK WRITE CACHE. This can be found in the Array Configuration Utility. However, before you enable it, Be aware of the negative impact as well.

Refer:

PS: I am not aware of the Controller you use. Hence this could be irrelevant, but worth a reading !! ;) Good luck !

Re: server is unresponsive when transferring files

does my server even have a proper storage controller?

When I go into array config it says no compatible controllers found - however no of the other tools work as I don't have SNMP install (which I am going to do after I reformat...again).

Enabling the disk cache in the windows device manager has helps a lot however I was like to make my settings optimal as possible as it clearly is a disk issue

cheers

Re: server is unresponsive when transferring files

if i wanted to add another hard drive to have a RAID array, do I need a special hard drive of will a normal one do? many thanks
