server wants to boot from usb drive
hi i have an HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 Server that tries to boot from an attached USB backup drive instead of it's local hard drive. the usb drive does not show up in the BIOS boot order options so i can't demote it, looks like it gets initialized later in the boot process
the USB drive is a new replacement for one that has died, the old one did not have this problem
it means the server can't restart itself after UPS shutdown as someone has to unplug the USB for it to boot
anyone come across this problem/ found a way to force it to boot from hard drive?
thanks

Re: server wants to boot from usb drive
Hi,
Make sure the SmartArray controller and hard drive C: is in the first boot order.
Try connecting the USB device to a different USB port and see if that changes the booting order.
Update the server BIOS and see if that fixes the issue.
Thank You!

Re: server wants to boot from usb drive
yes i have tried different USB ports and yes the Smart array controller and hard drive C: is in the first boot order, the usb is not even showing as an option. As this is our only server i'm reluctant to flash the BIOS unless i really have to ...

Re: server wants to boot from usb drive
You should find an entry "usb keydrive" in BIOS boot order. But you can also try to disable USB boot in BIOS.
Consider to keep the BIOS current!

Boot order (item5):
Disable USB boot (ignore the comment):
Hope this helps!

Torsten.
