slow disk access

I have a bunch of Compaq servers Proliant, Prosignia. All are Netware 5.0 latest service pack. My ML350 is set up with RAID 5 (as are some of the other servers) but copying files to or from this server is VERY slow most of the time. There is an occasional speed up for a few seconds. The NIC checks out at good speed, this problem is only occuring on the ML350, other servers are fine. I have current ROMPAQ installed. Does anyone have any ideas on what I this might be?

Verify that the array controller is installed in slot 4,5 or 6. Also verify that the firm ware of the controller and hard drives are up to date. The softpaq for updating the firm ware on the hard drives and the array controller is SP12987.exe (www.compaq.com./support/files/allsp.html).
