smart array 431

The manual says:
"One SCSI port may be available for connection to external storage devices. depending on whether or not internal drives are connected to the Smart Array 431 Controller"
Does this mean I can connect external devices and internal or either internal or external but not both?

on the 431 the port is EITHER internal OR external..not both...in other words if you are using the internal connector the external one is not available ...
