smart array 5300 drivers

I have been upgrading from an 3200 to a 5300 controller in a DL380. I have not been able to locate the correct procedure for installing the controller device drivers on an NT4 system. Any assistance would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: smart array 5300 drivers

Hello Ray,
Here is the procedure for installing the SA5300 drivers under WINNT 4.0. Please make sure that this is done while the SA3200 is still in the system. The rationale behind doing the upgrade this way is that you have to set up the HW first alongwith the Drivers and then move the cable over to the SA5300 controller. Please also make sure that the boot controller is set properly in the BIOS otherwise you will get the non system disk message. Here is the link for the driver set up:

Re: smart array 5300 drivers

The reason I was upgrading to the 5300 controller is because the 3200 will no longer initialize. I took out the 3200, put in the 5300, followed all the setup instructions. I was able to add the 5300 drivers thru the NT4 repair utility but all I get is the BSOD. Should the 5300 work in this setup?

Re: smart array 5300 drivers

Hello Ray,
Yes it should work provided the drivers are loaded properly and boot controller order is set up right.

Re: smart array 5300 drivers

2 Ways.

First the CLEAN ONE.

You definitly will have to use an SA3200 temporarily.
Install BOTH Controllers.

Boot from TEMP 3200 controller and add driver for the SA5300.

Power down the Server. Remove the temp 3200 controller. Connect cables to 5300. Change boot controller.

Finally boot to windows without BSOD :-)

HACK - Dirty Ugly Version. Will work on NT 4 Systems only.

1. Remove Smart 3200 and Insert 5x Controller
2. Install a second NT (Best on second Partion)
3. Boot From Backup NT.
4. Copy array.sys driver from backup NT to Old non working NT.
5. Rename the driver to the Old array driver name.
6. Boot from damaged NT.
7. Backup the Data :-)

8. To make it a little more professional add SA5x driver a second time.
9. After succselfull reboot remove non existig SA3200 Driver
