smart array 6i

I have a DL380 G4 with Smart array 6i embedded attached to one 72 GB hard drive configured raid 0, logical drive A, and three 300 GB configured raid 5, when I try to configure logical drive B it truncate the total size to 572 +/- GB. I take it this is the max allowed for this smarty array 6i controller. My question; is there a work around for this or do I need to buy a new array controller to get access to the full capacity of all drives.

Re: smart array 6i

The problem you're seeing isnt a problem at all. With a RAID 5 array, you lose one disks worth of space for the parity bits.
Nothing you can do, that how it works...

Thanks

Re: smart array 6i

Hi O Tech,

There is no work around. Apart from the Parity Overhead there will be File System overhead (such as NTFS) will add approximately 5%.
