smart start for esx server??

I have a DL 380 which will become an ESX server, is there anything special I need to do during SmartStart to prepare it to become an ESX server??

Is there anything that tells me the exact procedure or steps for setting up the RAID arrays?? I have two 36-GB to become RAID 1, and 4 146-GB to become RAID 5.

Thank you, Tom

Re: smart start for esx server??

Hi Tom,

You shouldn't need to use SmartStart to build an ESX server. When the server boots, hit F8 when prompted to get in the RAID Configuration menu, and set up the two arrays as required. You should find this to be straightforward.

Once complete, boot up of your ESX CD and follow the prompts. You'll probably just want to make sure that your vmfs partition goes onto the RAID-5 stripe.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

regarding the attached file, it's about best practices for ESX 2.0 -- is there anything different or changed for ESX 3.x??
