smartstart hangs
Hi,
I was trying to install smartstart on my new but used compaq proliant 3000 server.
Here are the steps I followed to setup server & install Linux:
1) Inserted smartstart CD. Rebooted the server
2) After reboot got smartstart menu
3) Selected option
RAID 0 for all 4 drives
4) Selection option
Saved configuration on Floppy
5) Selection option
This rebooted the system and recognized the partition by confirming
the successful installation of above steps. This option was not required but I ran it for the sake of learning. After reboot, system asked to create partition and selected & system started copying files.
6) Selection option
7) Once above steps are done, I rebooted my system and by pressing key logged into system utilities and changed some option like adding servername, administrator name and so on. Here the problem began:
I rebooted my system and my server just hung. I tried to press Keys and
movemouse no reaction.
I think so I messed up some settings in system admin utility by pressing
Key. I tried to connect different keyboard and mouse still same result.
System is frozen.
I tried to install smartstart CD by rebooting with CD, smartstart menu
is coming up but keyboard and mouse still not working..
Could you please tell me how to reinstall smartstart utilities now as
every time, I tried to reboot with smartstart CD, menu is coming up but can't
use keyboard and mouse as both of them are stuck?
8) I thought what the heck and inserted LINUX-7.2 CD, rebooted the
server.
To my surprise, KBD and mouse worked fine and I proceeded with LINUX
installation. I am all set with LINUX installation, network is up,
looks great. FYI: While installation LINUX, I
instructed to format only LINUX related drives/partitions, in turn LINUX
left 32MB of vfat partition, and I believe as smartstart utilities might
be installed in this partitioned...
Problem is whenever I reboot my system and try to invoke system
utilities by
pressing key, computer is freezing, frozen keyboard & mouse but on the other hand if I don't press F10 and let LINUX boot it, everything works fine. It seems like I messed with system utilities configuration and want to revert back. I'm willing to erase everything. Please suggest how to erase everything what smartstart installed as smartstart CD is freezing system. So my only option is to download erase utility to floppy drive? Please suggest how and from where?
Could you please advice how to take care of this issue?
FYI: I ran hardware diagnostice utility and everything looks great.

Re: smartstart hangs
Please update your system bios first. Make sure RAM is below 1GB(You can increase it after the initial installation). Download SP19639 to run System Erase. Download SP19619 which is System Configuration Utility(Requires 4 Diskettes).Ater running Sys Erase boot with the first diskette of Sys Config Utility and follow the Screen.
