smp multiprocessor under linux
I *wish* someone in the support group would take on the battle to release the information on how the system uses multi-processors.
It is not SMP compliant...( even tho' I bought it from someone who said it was)
I get the message from the support folks that
"We are not allowed to release that information..."
Why not ? You released it to Microsoft, Banyan, and quite a few others,
but wont release it to the Linux community.
If anyone else has any relevant information, please let me know....
as we are running out of time, and need to either get the 4500's working in MP mode, or we get out the checkbook and replace them with
servers from a company that can give more thorough information about its
products.
Hate to sound like a flame, but, this has been going on for months.

Re: smp multiprocessor under linux
If you know of someone on your end who wants to get involved, either ive them my email address....or give me theirs.
They weren't bad as NT boxes, but running single peocessor linux is a waste of electricity on these monsters.
Thanks for the rep[ly, but I've been there, done that, to no avail.

Re: smp multiprocessor under linux
I understand the 4500 (and a few others ) are "pre-SMP" as far as the
Intel style APIC specification.
Compaq wont release any info about their (BIOS ? ) software, so as these machines
encounter difficulties, they are then replaced. It's sad really, the 4500's are still pretty capable of supporting a heavy load.
