system process

The system process is very high on this server. How can I check what the problem can be. There are a lot of files open (mail files) and files of a special software which opens a lot of files. I have 2 pagefiles on the C and D drives. The server has 260 Mb RAM. On other fileservers the system process has 0 or 1 % and on this one the % goes to 60/80 %.
